Frequently Asked Questions
Please read through the page below to get answers to some of our frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.
1. What can I expect from a session?
The first session is always a consultation/assessment. The consultation consists of going over your goals, preferences, etc. During the assessment, we will take your "before" pictures and measurements and take you through a fitness test to determine your current level of fitness in strength, endurance, cardiovascular capacity/recovery and flexibility (trust me, this in and of itself is a workout!). It's important to do this because as you start seeing results, you're going to want a "before" to compare to.
On your next session we get into your regular workouts which will be custom to you...your goals, needs, preferences and so on. Sessions will range from 30-45 minutes, depending on the day...sometimes it may be 30, sometimes it may be 45. The workouts will vary in intensity and styles of training and also according to your energy level, goals and my mood that day. So, plan to leave a 45-minute window, even though on many days we may only use 30.
2. Why do you only work with women and are you willing to work with men?
I work exclusively with women because it's what inspires me! Please read my story to learn a little bit more about my background and why working with women is my passion. I am however, happy to work with men if they are part of a couple or group.
3. What methods do you use for training?Workouts can range from bodyweight training, to yoga, to many other types of strength training. Depending on what your goals are (putting on muscle, losing fat etc.) I will usually incorporate a mix of cardio and resistance training to kick your metabolism into high gear. I use the same techniques I used to lose 40 pounds (and keep it off) with each client (although I do tailor it to your specific needs, wants and goals). I work around any preferences, dislikes, contraindications, etc. for a workout and nutrition plan that fits the lifestyle of each client.
4. How do I access my $5/session off when purchasing a Virtual Training package?
You will get a discount of $5 off per session on in-home training when you purchase an Online Training Package. For more info on my Virtual Training, contact me. Once you have signed up for the Virtual Training, contact me to receive your discount.
5. Do I need to take supplements?
Supplements are not required but are a great aide and complement to most peopleís diet and training plan. I only recommend the healthiest supplements. Nothing I wouldn't put in my own body.
6. Iíve heard yoga is hard, do you do it with all your clients?
Yoga can definitely be tough, especially when you first start. It challenges your muscles (and your mind!) in different ways than most exercises. It also increases flexibility and strength, so can be a nice complement to most any fitness regimen. I am not a certified yoga instructor...but I have personally done yoga extensively and am familiar with many forms of Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga. I do yoga sessions with some of my clients because they tend to like the change of pace (and I love it too!). Depending on your preferences, we can do yoga for an entire session, or just incorporate a little into the stretches at the end of your strength training.
7. What kind of payments do you accept?
Cash or check are usually the most convenient method of payment, but I also accept payments via Paypal if you need to use a credit or debit card. Payment is due prior to beginning a session.
8. Can you help me workout while Iím pregnant?
Absolutely! Exercising during pregnancy can not only help you feel better throughout the pregnancy, but can also help your body stay in shape which means taking off that baby weight faster and easier!
9. Can you train me at the gym where I have a membership?
Clubs and gyms generally have pretty strict rules about bringing in outside personal trainers so I don't offer that as a service. However, if you live in a community that has a fitness center, we can use that. If you're really set on using your membership and the equipment at your gym, the best option would be to do my Online Training Program, where you'll get a step-by-step program you can follow at the gym. If you do opt to work out in person with me I have all the portable equipment that is needed to whip your body into shape. I should know. It's the same equipment I used to drop 40 pounds! Not to mention if you work out with me you don't have to pay those monthly gym membership fees anymore while gaining a partner in crime to keep your eye on the prize!
10. Do you ever train out of a gym/studio or is it only in-home?
As of now I only do in-home training in the comfort and privacy of your home. We can also go to a park or another outdoor/indoor setting of your choice.
11. How many days per week should I work out?
In general, you'll want to be working out at least 3-6 days/week depending on your goals. You always want to take at least 1 day a week to rest.
12. Do I need to do a Nutrition Plan?
While none of my services are required, I highly recommend the Nutritional Fundamentals e-book and/or Monthly Menu Plan because a healthy diet goes hand-in-hand with the physical activity you'll be doing and youíll see much faster results when following a plan suited for your goals. Many studies have shown that diet is responsible for up to 75% of the results youíll see when following an exercise program. So if you don't know where to get started with your diet plan and you really want to make all that hard work pay off, go for the Monthly Menu Plan to take the guesswork out of what to eat, the to help understand in general Nutritional Fundamentals e-book terms what to eat and why, and of course the Healthy Snack Recipes to keep you on track in between meals!
13. Iím extremely overweight and out of shape, can you help me?
Of course! It doesnít matter if you are in great shape and just lacking the motivation to keep it up, or if you have never worked out a day in your life and have 100 pounds to lose. We will start with wherever youíre at and create a program that will work for you.
14. Do I need to bring anything to the workout?
Other than any equipment you want to incorporate, you'll want water and a towel on hand. Wear whatever clothes you feel comfortable to work out in and give you freedom of movement.
15. What are your qualifications?
I have a Bachelorís degree in Fitness and Wellness Management/Exercise Science. I've been certified as a Personal Trainer for 9 years and as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist for 6. I am certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and World Instructor Training Schools. I also have my CPR and First Aid certifications. I've worked in a variety of settings that include, a fitness center, physical therapy clinic, high school sports medicine teams, weight management center, and a spa.
16. I donít have much space at my house to workout in, can you still train me?
Of courseÖeven if the only space is a small living room and we have to move the coffee table, we will have plenty of room to exercise in. There are a lot of activities that don't take up a lot of space inside. We can even work out at a park (or back yard if you have one) for days we want more space or just to change it up and get some fresh air. For yoga, if you have enough space for a mat with a foot or two around each side, that is generally enough. A yoga mat is about 2-3 feet wide by about 6 feet long.
17. Do I need my own equipment?
If you have weights or other equipment, we can definitely make use of it, but it's not required. I have my own equipment (the same equipment that I used to lose 40 pounds) that I can bring, and some of the best exercises use just your own bodyweight.
18. How long will it take me to lose weight?
I will be always be totally straight forward with you about what you can expect. With any healthy (non-fad) diet and exercise program you can expect to lose 1-2 pounds a week on average. The same goes for working with me. For example, if you have 30 pounds to lose you can expect it to take 15-30 weeks. Sometimes the weight does come off a little faster in the beginning, especially if you have quite a bit to lose. The most important thing to remember is consistent nutrition and exercise yields consistent results!
Absolutely. Everyone has different goals, schedules, preferences, and motivations. All my sessions are customized specifically to each individual. I have clients who just consult with me once per week and then do all the workouts on their own, some who train with me a couple days a week, and some who train with me five days a week. We can definitely work with what you'd like to do, what your schedule will allow, and what your goals are.
19. I donít see anything on your menu that exactly fits what Iím looking for, can you customize something for me?
